  • Cut back on cleansing --1 -2x a week on average.

  • Always detangle & brush you hair before hopping in the shower

  • Be sure to cleanse between rows, this can mean clipping each row up and cleansing each row individually

  • Rinse all excess shampoo and conditioner throughly

  • Don't roughly dry hair, wring it out and squeeze dry

  • Invest in quality hair care, without sulfates

  • Grab an extension safe hair brush

  • Hold your hair in a ponytail when detangling, start from the bottom of your hair and work your way up

  • Section each row individually to detangle them

  • Utilize a clarifying shampoo once a month to remove product and mineral buildup from day to day life

  • Install a shower head filter, it will help prevent fading, tangling, and dryness. These are also great for your natural hair and skin

Sleeping

  • NEVER EVER go to bed with wet hair! This can cause matting at the base of your extensions & severe tangling.

  • Invest in a silk pillowcase, it fights tangles and will help maintain your style longer

  • Brush and detangle your hair before bed

  • Secure your hair in a ponytail, braid, pigtails , or a top knot with a silk scrunchie

Workouts

  • Pick a hairstyle that minimizes, friction & tangling.....think ponytail, braid, or top knot. Don't forget your silk scrunchie

  • Consider a headband or a moisture wicking hat, this a must for outside. Sun pollution + sweat can make your extensions brassy and dry them out prematurely

  • Grab a UV protectant if you are active & outdoorsy to keep moisture locked in and prevent fading

  • Use dry shampoo sparingly! While it can save you in a pinch it doesn't replace regular cleansing & can create build up

  • After a good sweat sessions it's crucial to wash and dry your extensions to remove sweat, product, or even dirt buildup

  • Brush, brush, brush...make sure you have your go to extension brush and detangler on hand post workout

  • Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, since sweat+frequent washing can dry out extensions & your natural hair it's important to rehydrate, just like your body

  • Dry your base + roots of extensions. This is HUGE, it will prevent matting, odor, tangling and the longevity of your hand tied extensions

  • Try a top Wash... this is my go to life saver. Focus on a quick wash and blow dry on your natural hair in your crown & hairline

Swimming

  • Mineral sunscreen is a must-have for anyone with hair extensions. Avoid chemical sunscreens containing Avobenzone and Octocrylene, which can cause discoloration and a pinkish tone. Mineral sunscreen lacks these harmful ingredients for outside.

  • Before getting into the pool or ocean, wet your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner. There are often minerals found in bodies of water that can react poorly with your extensions, causing dryness and discoloration.

  • After swimming be sure to rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water immediately after swimming to remove any chlorine or saltwater residue

  • Detangle and brush each row before and after swimming to prevent matting and tangling.

  • If you swim regularly be sure to utilize a swim cap to protect your extensions & natural hair

  • Keep your hair and extensions healthy by using leave-in conditioners, hydrating balms, and hair oils to prevent your hair and the extensions from becoming dry & discolored from the sun
